  • Call for Nominations: Additional Editor in Chief for „Clinical Psychology in Europe”

The journal “Clinical Psychology in Europe” (CPE) searches further colleagues to extend the board of active editors in chief . CPE was founded in 2018 as an e-journal that is accessible for everybody (full open access), and that does not request article processing fees. CPE is the official journal of the European Association of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Treatments , and it is open for submissions of relevance for clinical psychology and psychological treatments. CPE covers all different approaches of evidence-based psychotherapy. CPE is indexed in Pubmed, Scopus, and many other data bases. It received high recognition from our scientific colleagues, and the number of submissions allows to apply rigorous scientific criteria for acceptance of manuscripts. Due to this success of the journal, the current editors in chief (Prof. Dr. Cornelia Weise, Prof. Dr. Winfried Rief) ask for support by another editor in chief. It will be favorable, although not necessary, if the new editor in chief also covers the expertise of clinical child and adolescence psychology. To represent national diversity, applications from non-German countries are prioritized. The person of an editor in chief should have an excellent scientific reputation, and should be connected to a brought international network of scientists. Self-nominations are possible, but people can also nominate colleagues (after informed consent). Nominees should submit their CV and a letter of interest . The final selection will be undertaken in cooperation between the EACLIPT board and the current editors in chief. Nominations should be sent to Prof. Dr. Winfried Rief, e-mail: rief@uni-marburg.de

  • Congratulations to Daina Kosīte, M.Sc., for her poster

A quick look back at the Amsterdam conference to congratulate our third winner of the poster contest organised by EACLIPT, Daina Kosīte, M.Sc., for her poster entitled "The perspectives of local mental health experts on social determinants of mental health and municipality-level policies addressing mental health in 5 European cities" Daina Kosīte is a Junior Researcher / PhD candidate at the Erasmus MC, University Medical Center Rotterdam in Netherlands. Daina did an impressive poster about the perspectives of mental health experts on the urban policies for mental health. Mental health is shaped by the social, economic and physical environments. Since there is more and more people around the world live in urban environments, it is urgent to look for effective urban policies for mental health and understand the perspective of the main stakeholders about the key challenges and solutions. Daina and her colleagues did an international study with semi-structured interviews with local mental health experts in five European cities. The analysis of the interviews shows that the mental health of city residents is affected by factors like an accumulation of environmental stressors, an intertwinement of socio-economic problems and mental health problems, a bleak outlook due to global crises or insufficient services. The vision of how social determinants of mental health are tackled within the local-level policy shows a focus on the burning issues, a lack of funding to address future problems, or a difficulty in reaching services. We hope those results will help in supporting the need of implementing local-level urban policy that address the key challenges of mental health in urban environments and use integrated policy approaches to mental health. If you are interested by the research of Daina Kosīte you can follow her on LinkedIn or Twitter . You can also go check on Twitter the Department of Daina, the Department of Public Health at Erasmus MC as well as her supervisors, Frank van Lenthe and Mariëlle Beenackers . Finally you can check the Junior Researcher Programme in which the research project was done as a part of this programme.

  • Congratulations to Steven Barnes, PhD, for his poster

A quick look back at the Amsterdam conference to congratulate our second winner of the poster contest organised by EACLIPT, Steven Barnes, PhD, for his poster entitled "Development of a mobile application-based ecological momentary intervention: Initial outcomes of a pilot examination of an intervention reducing experiential avoidance in the context of rumination." Steven Barnes is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Emotion Cognition Lab at the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Poland. Steven did a remarkable poster in which he presented the initial outcomes of a pilot examination of a mobile-application intervention. Rumination involves repetitive negative thinking perceived to be difficult to control and present across several psychological disorders. One mechanism underpinning rumination, experiential avoidance, lack empirical validation. Steven and his team used a mobile application with a Rumination Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy intervention and recruited participants with a high score in rumination. Their initial results show that the intervention programme appears to be efficacious in reducing experiential avoidance and rumination and may also have an increased in awareness. There was a good acceptability and usabilitiy of the intervention content. We wish the best for Steven and his team in the implementation of the modifications for the usability and appeal in their application and hope that their enhanced version, currently in development, will soon see the light of day. If you are interested by the research of Steven Barnes you can follow him on ResearchGate and LinkedIn . You can also go check on the Emotion Cognition Lab Website and Facebook page as well as follow the Head of the lab, Dr. Monika Kornacka on LinkedIn .

  • Congratulations to Laura Bielinski, PhD, and Gwen Wälchli, M.Sc, for their poster

A quick look back at the Amsterdam conference to congratulate our first winners of the poster contest organised by EACLIPT, Laura Bielinski, PhD, and Gwen Wälchli, M.Sc, for their poster entitled " Results from the Acute-REMOTION Study: an Internet-based Intervention in Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Care ". They are both members of the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the University of Bern in Switzerland. Laura and Gwen did an outstanding scientific poster presenting the preliminary results of the Acute-REMOTION project. Studies about blended treatments, that combine face-to-face psychotherapy with internet-based interventions, are rare in acute psychiatric inpatient settings. Their study aim at examining the utilization of the internet-based intervention "REMOTION" with patients in acute inpatient treatment and explore the potential effectiveness on enhancing emotion regulation and reducing symptom severity. Their preliminary results show that patients are satisfied with the internet-based intervention and the system usability was considered good. The rate of module completers decreased with each module and the average time spend on the modules decreased after the fourth one. We look forward to the rest of their results on symptom severity and emotion regulation! You can follow Gwen Wälchi on LinkedIn .

You can download the full issue as  PDF  or read it online at https://doi.org/10.32872/cpe.v5i4   What’s in it? In our end-of-the-year editorial, we look back to 2023 with its challenges and promising developments in clinical psychology . A very important editorial by Seithikurippu R. Pandi-Perumal and 38 colleagues from all over the word looks at the effects of war on communities and mental health, emphasizing the need for international efforts to promote peace, offer humanitarian aid, and address the mental health challenges . Kate MacKrill and colleagues trace the nature, growth and spread of health scares , concluding that they can develop quickly and that more effective measures are needed to reduce their negative public health effects. Mark H. Wheeler and colleagues look at how and why the choice of success criteria can impact therapy service delivery. Maarit Pelzer and colleagues present a study protocol for a study that will enhance the current knowledge of the efficacy of mirror exposure to target body dissatisfaction in adolescent patients diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. In a discussion paper, Rief et al. describe important proposals for rethinking the classification of mental and behavioral disorders and discuss overlaps and differences.
